How to make a request

Our website has been designed to provide extensive information about our governance, performance, priorities and expenditure.

If you cannot find the information you are seeking on this website, please apply in writing to:

Freedom of Information/Data Protection Manager,
Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman
Millbank Tower Millbank, London SW1P 4QP

E-mail: foiofficer@ombudsman.org.uk

When requesting information, please include the following details:

  1. Your name and address
  2. The information or documents you would like to access
  3. The way you would like the information to be sent to you (for example as hard copy, via e-mail or on a computer disk).

How long will it take?

Where the information you want is readily available, we aim to provide it within a few days. There will be some cases where it takes a little longer. In such cases we will aim to supply the information you want in 20 working days.

What happens if information cannot be made available?

If we refuse to supply all or part of any other information you have asked for we will write to you giving our reasons for refusal.

Please note that under our legislation our investigations must be conducted in private and the information gathered for the purposes of those investigations can only be disclosed in very specific circumstances. We must also balance our wish to operate openly and transparently with our duty to protect the personal and confidential information that we hold. Therefore the information that we can place in the public domain about our investigations is limited.

Are there any charges for supplying information?

In general, we do not intend to charge for the information provided under the Act. Publications issued in hard copy as House of Commons papers by The Stationery Office, and obtainable from them, will be charged for in accordance with their pricing policy.

Our aim is to make as much as possible available to you free of charge. However, if it takes a considerable amount of time to gather or prepare the information you want, we may charge for that work. If your request does attract any charges we will ask whether you wish to continue with the request before we undertake the work. VAT is not charged.

No charges will be made where we refuse a request for information. Nor will there be a charge to appeal against our refusal to supply the information requested or where you appeal against the charges we would make. Where the information is already available in a priced publication we will give you details of the publication and where to get it.
