Ann Abraham welcomes Public Administration Select Committee's call for reforms

09 December 2009

Press release 09/12

The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, Ann Abraham, has welcomed today’s Public Administration Select Committee (PASC) report PDF document and its recommendations regarding the removal of the ‘MP filter’ and ensuring Parliamentary debate when the Government has failed to remedy injustice caused by maladministration.

Ann Abraham said:

'The removal of the ‘MP filter’ would not diminish the importance of my relationship with Parliament, but it would significantly improve the public’s access to the Ombudsman’s services and so I welcome PASC’s call for its removal'

Ensuring Parliamentary debate of my reports, when the Government has failed to remedy injustice caused by maladministration, can only strengthen Parliament’s relationship with its Ombudsman.'
