Publication of 2010 Stakeholder Impact Study
16 June 2010
The Office of the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has published the results of a study looking at the impact of our work.
The Stakeholder Impact Study was conducted by an independent research company. It was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman’s recommendations to public bodies and to ascertain the wider impact and public benefit of her Office’s work.
The study findings, recommendations and our response to them are available in full. Click here to access the documents.
Some highlights of the results are:
- The Ombudsman’s recommendations can directly lead to changes and improvements in the way in which a public body operates;
- The Ombudsman’s recommendations can also act as a 'catalyst for change' - giving the body a lever to use to ensure improvements happen, or form part of a bigger body of evidence that leads to change;
- Bodies within the Ombudsman’s jurisdiction value the benefits that her Office’s gravitas, independence and expertise in complaint handling bring;
- The Ombudsman’s work can bring resolution to protracted or cyclical complaints – bringing benefits to both individuals and the public bodies concerned.
