Ombudsman makes final report on government openness

The Parliamentary Ombudsman today published a special report on her Office’s monitoring of the Code of Practice on Access to Government Information over the past 11 years and a two-part volume of the last investigations into complaints that government information had been wrongly withheld from those who had asked for it. From January 2005 the Freedom of Information Act 2000 came fully into force superseding the non-statutory Code.

Complaint about the regulation of Lloyds will not be investigated by Ombudsman

A complaint about the regulation of Lloyds in the 1980s and 1990s, made by the Chairman of the Lloyd's Names Association and members of his Association, will not be investigated by the Parliamentary Ombudsman. The decision was made public today in letters from the Ombudsman, Ann Abraham, to the Association's Chairman and to all MPs.

A key recommendation in the Ombudsman's forthcoming report on funding for long-term care - due for publication before Christmas - was picked up today in the Department of Health's announcement that it will commission 'the development of a national consistent approach to assessment for fully funded NHS continuing care.'
Parliamentary Ombudsman to investigate complaints about occupational pensions

Complaints about occupational pension schemes are to be investigated by the Parliamentary Ombudsman, Ann Abraham, it was announced today. The Ombudsman has written to MPs to inform them that the investigation will focus on the actions of four government bodies - the Department for Work and Pensions, the Occupational Pensions Regulatory Authority, HM Treasury and the National Insurance Contributions Office (part of the Inland Revenue).
The Welsh Administration Ombudsman publishes her Annual Report

Ann Abraham, the Welsh Administration Ombudsman, today published her Annual Report for 2003-04. It is her final report before handing over to her successor, Adam Peat, the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales, on Thursday, 4 November.
