Approaching MPs
We asked our customers whether or not they approached their MP, and if so, how easy they found this.
11 per cent of the complainants we surveyed did not approach their MP after being told that they needed a referral.
25 per cent of people who did not return to the Parliamentary Ombudsman after being told they needed an MP referral did not approach their MP (11 per cent of all surveyed).
Of those who managed to obtain an MP referral, 86 per cent found contacting their MP either ‘fairly easy’ or ‘very easy’. However, this contrasts starkly with the individuals who tried but failed to obtain an MP referral, where 40 per cent found contacting their MP either ‘fairly difficult’ or ‘very difficult’. Of these, 25 per cent said that they had tried but failed to even contact their MP.
