TheHealth Service Ombudsmaninvestigates complaints about the National Health Service (NHS). Before asking the Ombudsman to look into your complaint, you must first take it up locally with your local hospital, clinic, surgery or Health Authority (health board in Scotland).
The Ombudsman iscompletely independentof the NHS and the Government. There isno chargefor the Ombudsman's service.
The Ombudsman can investigate complaints against any part of the NHS about:
a
failure in service;
or
b
failure to purchase or provide a service you are entitled to receive;
or
c
maladministration (administrative failures).
