Chapter 2
DEPARTMENT FOR EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT
Case No: C.1232/00
Improper disclosure of information
The Department for Education and Employment failed to follow the proper procedures and disclosed to a college that Mr A was the source of allegations against the management team and certain members of staff in the college where he had formerly been employed. Mr A was faced with the threat of legal proceedings being taken against him and suffered distress. The Department agreed to investigate Mr A's allegations in the light of his permission for them to do so and apologised for the distress caused. They also agreed to meet the reasonable legal cost of an initial consultation between Mr A and a solicitor about the implications for him of the investigation.
