PA-2823
The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman’s Office (PHSO) completed an investigation into a complaint about the Home Office’s regulation of animal experimentation on 23 December 2005.
After issuing that report we received a number of further representations. The Ombudsman, Ann Abraham, subsequently carried out a detailed review of the case and concluded that the report was sound, that it would stand and that we would not revisit its findings or reinvestigate the case. In conducting that review Ms Abraham took full account of the further representations received in respect of the case. Because of the level of interest generated by the report, it was laid before Parliament on 14 December 2006.
PHSO has continued to receive representations from a number of parties but Ms Abraham’s position remains that the substantive case is now closed and we will not be taking further action in respect of the complaint against the Home Office. Ms Abraham does not accept the criticisms levelled against the report and she stands by the investigation and the published report.
Although we have read and will continue to read any representations we may receive, PHSO will not be responding individually to those representations other than to acknowledge receipt, unless we see compelling and substantial reasons to do so.
