Clinical Advisers support our investigations by providing expert professional advice to investigation staff on medical issues raised in complaints made within England. We also provide clinical advice to the Ombudsman in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The Advisers promote our key strategic objectives of Quality, Efficiency and Influence by developing approaches to sharing learning with colleagues in the wider health service, the aim of which is to enhance clinical practice and improve patient care.
Typical key accountabilities include:
- Initial assessment of complaints when they are received.
- Substantive case review, or specific advice on aspects of clinical care.
- Decisions relating to the need for and securing of additional, external professional expertise.
- Ensuring that the findings, conclusions and recommendations contained in reports of investigations are appropriately evidenced and based on a good understanding of the clinical issues.
We employ Clinical Advisers on both fixed term contracts or secondments.
