Shiplu Miah
Stakeholder Engagement Manager

Experience

Although I graduated with a BA honours in Accounting with Law, I did not pursue a career in either field. Instead I found my passion in public affairs. After briefly working in finance for a recruitment company, I realised I enjoyed working for organisations that try to make a real difference to society and people’s lives. From then on, I have always worked in public affairs related roles, in particular as a stakeholder manager.

I have over seven years of experience in managing stakeholders from the private and public sectors, including local and central government departments and agencies, as well as charities.

To supplement my work, I have professional project management qualifications and am currently completing a Masters in Marketing Communications.

What is your role in the organisation?

We have many stakeholders from a variety of industries; they include complainants, NHS organisations, MPs, and government departments. My role is to manage and support all the engagement work we do with our stakeholders so that we can build and maintain these important relationships.

The range of work for my role includes meeting stakeholders, producing briefings for the Ombudsman, managing events, producing newsletters, and supporting teams across the organisation with stakeholder engagement activities.

What advice would you give to someone joining the organisation?

The very function of our organisation to put things right for people who have been let down by the complaints systems makes it a very fulfilling job. This would be my number one reason that makes working here such a great experience. In addition to this, the staff here are absolutely wonderful, which makes work enjoyable and pleasant every day.
