Sir Jonathan Jones is a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Government, an Honorary Senior Fellow of the Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law, a visiting professor at Durham Law School, a Master of the Bench of Middle Temple and a lay canon and member of the Chapter of Ely Cathedral.
He served as a government lawyer for more than 30 years, holding senior legal roles at HM Treasury, the Department for Education, the Home Office and the Attorney General’s Office.
From 2013 to 2020 he was Treasury Solicitor and Permanent Secretary of the Government Legal Department, the most senior legal official in the UK government.
After leaving the civil service, he was a senior consultant at Linklaters from 2021 to 2026.
