Ombudsman welcomes midwifery law change

Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman Julie Mellor said:

Today our recommendations on midwifery regulation have become reality, improving the safety of mothers and babies. Separating midwifery supervision and regulation will remove a significant conflict of interest. This legal milestone would not have happened without the brave families who came to us seeking justice after suffering harrowing ordeals. We owe them a debt of gratitude.'

Background:

Our 2013 report identified a conflict of interest between midwifery regulation and supervision.
